Bonds are basically tools for making money that give you fixed returns. They usually come with a set interest rate, but sometimes you might see rates that change. When you buy a bond, you’re lending money to whoever issues it, which could be a company or any level of government. They use that cash for different projects or to keep things running smoothly.
When you hold a bond, you’re like a lender to the company or government that issued it.
It's good to know that bond prices move in the opposite direction of interest rates. So when interest rates increase, bond prices usually drop, and when rates fall, bond prices tend to rise.
While bonds are seen as a safer bet than stocks, that doesn’t mean they’re without risk. For example, a company could struggle to pay back what they owe you, or the profits from those bonds might go down.
Just like with any investing game, having a knowledgeable financial advisor, like John Pirozzi, can really help you out in the bond market. Bonds can play a big part in your retirement plans, giving you a chance to earn money if you sell them for more than what you bought them for, plus you get regular income from interest payments. This makes them a pretty solid choice for long-term investing.
